The pipelay commenced along the specially developed route for TurkStream

19 February 2018

On 19 February, Pioneering Spirit installing the first line of the TurkStream gas pipeline passed KP660 in the Black Sea near the border of Bulgarian Exclusive Economic Zone. The already laid section of the offshore route is located in the pipelay corridor approved earlier for the South Stream gas pipeline.

At the moment, Pioneering Spirit continues pipelay along the new section of the specially developed for TurkStream route towards the Kiyikoy settlement in accordance with the permits obtained from the Republic of Turkey.

In total, 884 km of both lines have been installed, representing about 48% of the offshore section of the pipeline.

TurkStream is the project for a gas pipeline stretching across the Black Sea from Russia to Turkey and further to Turkey’s border with neighbouring countries. The first line of the gas pipeline is intended for the Turkish consumers, while the second line is designated for the Southern and South-Eastern Europe. Each line will have the throughput capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas per year. South Stream Transport B.V. is responsible for the construction of the gas pipeline’s offshore section.
